You'd have trouble with speed autonegotiation, though. That wasn't developed until 1995 and GigE won't work at all with peers that don't support it.

- jerf 18y agoThank you, good point. Looking at the protocol on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonegotiation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autonegotiation) it looks very reverse-engineerable with not much work, but yeah, it won't work out of the box.
