I should have loved history. It was my worst subject (until Power and Statics in college). It was about memorizing dates and big generalizations about events. Now I'm active in a historical recreation society. I have learned to translate 3 ancient languages (and Latin, with great difficulty). I can intricately describe minutiae about what a late-1390s Englishman would know, and do on a daily basis. I can rant about "his" political opinions on France, the two popes, the various ruling families, Italians and Italian literature... I have organized and attended classes on: Chinese rice winemaking, primitive latitude tools, fiber and cloth production, religious daily artifacts, recipe redaction, ... Hated History. Got a "C". My only "C".
