The US IC TLAs have a long history of supporting US companies that have interesting (to them) capabilities that may be too early for the public market. To their credit they often have some foresight in this regard.
A lot of their support was a “they live ten years into the future” thing. They anticipated problems that may not have been exposed or recognized yet in the market.
