If you were hell-banned, your comments would appear fine to you, but will be dead on submission and won't be visible to non-logged in or logged in with "show dead=false"(default) users. If you do send an email, I would suggest rather than playing blame games or asking for reason, simply go for "I am banned, and I can't see why. Can you please unban me?".
