One of the motivating reasons I majored in Biology my sophomore year was that the Vatican was took centuries in accepting the heliocentric theory, and I thought if they got evolution wrong too, then there might be more work to do. But then I realized that a lot of biologists are religious, and it didn't have to be an antagonistic competition.
