The fix is to realize that if your system requires changing human behavior you should downweight it against alternatives

  Sadly, every system does. A free market is unstable once capitalists start bribing legislators - see the US as example. It's in human nature for the successful capitalist to try and for some pooiticians to be corrupt. Different system, same humans.
