The point of school is to expose you briefly to many things in hopes that one catches your fancy.

  This is a message that should be conveyed to kids. It's one that I didn't get. I wore blinders and prejudged that basically all the humanities was a waste of time. The guidance counselor would sign me up for history classes and I literally didn't even show up beyond the first day when I told the teacher that I have better things to do. I regret doing that. My daughter, fortunately, did not make that mistake and got exposed to a great deal of art and history and literature that I had denied myself. Now I love history and I'm trying to make up for the gap.

    Ha! I was very similar. Now I have a few accomplishments under my belt, I can appreciate craftsmanship and art for the sake of art.
