It would be interesting to me who you identify as “the state” in America in 2026, especially given the bureaucratic and executive upheaval of the past two years, and the newly-formed relationships between corporations and government agencies.
- pjc50 2mo agoMuch of this is local police, who are semantically "the state" even if they are nominally decentralized.
- datsci_est_2015 2mo agoThe implication of “local” in “local police” is that the demand for flock has grown organically without a centralized strategy. I wouldn’t discount the role of the law enforcement industry, with prior greatest hits including Street Cop Conference, Bulletproof Warrior, Killology, etc. Imagine all the scumminess and questionable ethics of pharmaceutical reps, but instead of a medical treatment, its ways to infringe on your civil liberties.
