- catlover76 2mo agoI see both a lot of left and right criticism of Israel on YouTube, and yeah, on the left it's all about Israel's actions and policies specifically, and often Zionism as an ideology, and the criticism is often lodged by left-leaning Jews. On the right, certainly the comments sections at least definitely feature some pretty alarming bigoted tropes--the comments explicitly make the jump from being about Israel to being about "the Jews". One could definitely make the same argument about some of the content, though most of it definitely seems to fall short of where the viewers want it to in this regard.
- nervai 2mo agoAs someone leaning left with big disagreements with the US right atm, I think the right in America would feel the same way if they felt their country's foreign, and to some extent domestic, policy was being hijacked by a small country in sub-Saharan Africa, or Asia (or Europe for that matter). They signed up for America First.
- culi 2mo agoWell the Morocco lobby and the Cuba exile lobby (CANF) are both pretty powerful and both explicitly model themselves after AIPAC. CANF also isn't registered under FARA (though the Morocco one is). Admittedly, neither of them are nearly as powerful as AIPAC
- frollogaston 2mo agoThe American conservatives against Israel are self-consistent in that view. America first, not Israel, not Palestine either. But the Republican party line isn't that, it's MIGA. American leftists... idk what they want. They can't even explain it, it's like they're taking radio commands from Qatar or Iran that they only barely understand.

- buellerbueller 2mo agoIsrael, who has made itself the standard bearer for and home of Judaism, is behaving reprehensibly. Do they not think that legitimate anti-Israeli-policy sentiment would bleed over into illegitimate anti-semitism, particularly when Israeli government officials themselves are openly racist and genocidal?
- nielsbot 2mo agoOf course I agree. They have demonstrated they don't really care about Judaism or Jews. (Israel is European colonialist project at heart.)

- forestrywat 2mo agoI suspect that's true, but the proportion of people is wildly different. Every leftist I know is anti genocide, and sees Gaza and the West Bank as unconscionable. Some may then take that to antisemitism (rather than simply opposing Zionism). On the right, though? I expect you see a lot more antisemitism leading to "what positions can I express to cloak my blatant antisemitism..."
- gosub100 2mo agoThat fails to explain why trump and other far right pundits are calling Tucker a terrorist for loudly decrying the genocide and the actions of Israel.
- forestrywat 2mo agoDid I say all, anywhere in my post? What in my post suggests that the left or the right is a monoculture?
- gosub100 2mo agoYou failed to cover an important fracture in the Republican party. That there are some big names getting involved with ending the genocide without being anti semitic.
- forestrywat 2mo agoThe only assertion I made about the right is that the proportion of antisemitism is higher. There are absolutely people on the right who are altruistic. Just like there are people on the left who are antisemitic.

- watutalkinbout 2mo agoWhereas they just love the Muslims.
- frollogaston 2mo agoThey often bring up how Israel has been evicting Christians
- watutalkinbout 2mo agoIsrael isn't a religion, it's a nationality. There are elements of the American right that are antisemitic but it definitely has bigger problems with Muslims, and a large slice of the American right view Jews favourably (arguably very favourably). Pew data is one example of data that shows this. Plus, in terms of Israel specifically, if you look at current support for the Iran war (which the Trump admin has repeatedly framed as important for Israels security) it's almost exclusively on the political right.
