Indian kings made deals with the East India Company. What did the people got out of it? Destitution?
So no, I am not being melodramatic. India has a history of the State betraying the Nation. Sadly, this is but the latest chapter in a very old saga.

And why are you so willing to accept the fault of Kings but not the fault of the current Government in circumstances that look increasingly similar each passing day? Just because a Government was elected doesn't mean that it can't be corrupt, what kind of naive understanding of politics is this?
