So? It’s still multiples more than other places.
- nozzlegear 2mo agoSo it's a good thing ya doink
- lotsofpulp 2mo agoIn response to fHr's comment of >If only China and US could get their shit together.... If people in the US are still consuming multiples more than people in other societies, then a decrease of 36% means the US still does not have their shit together. Presumably, zahlman's response of pointing out the 36% decrease was a refutation of fHr's claim for China and US to get their shit together. Although, also funny is that the US's 36% decline is partly (significantly?) due to exporting CO2 emissions from manufacturing to China, but that applies to the rest of the world too.
- nozzlegear 2mo agoIf we had to choose between the US decreasing by 36%, and decreasing by 0%, I know which one I would choose if I cared about the climate (which I do).
- alt227 2mo agoYou care about the climate and you think just cutting emissions in one part of the world to increase them in another is a good thing?
- nozzlegear 2mo agoAre we going to pretend that the Chinese have no self determination, and if it weren't for their American overlords, those poor, simple Chinese wouldn't have been duped into pumping so much carbon into the atmosphere? Blaming the US for China's emissions is like a weird climate form of white guilt, it makes no sense and assumes the Chinese had no choice or free will.
- zahlman 2mo ago> decline is partly (significantly?) due to exporting CO2 emissions from manufacturing to China They didn't have to agree to it, you know. But you can look at consumption-based carbon accounting and still get a picture that the US is, indeed, getting its shit together.
- zahlman 2mo agoSo, what exactly does "getting one's shit together" mean, if not a reduction in per-capita usage over time?
- lotsofpulp 2mo agoA nationwide fossil fuel tax high enough that would have brought carbon emissions down to at least Europe quality of life levels. But we all know the voting majority wants to consume. It doesn’t take decades to come down to still being 2x or more than other developed countries.
