Exactly. It’s why minimum wages are stupid. If a person is in dire straights let them be able to take a job for $1 an hour. Employment is the end that justifies the means. Notions like dignity, fairness, exploitation don’t belong in a capitalist society that is doing its best to become Ferenginar.

One of the main moral premises that capitalism is built on is self-ownership and voluntary exchange. You are not the property of others. You can own things. Others can’t coerce you and vice versa.

So it is moral to provide a baseline because… and voluntary exchange. Others can’t coerce you and vice versa. You can’t pay someone willing to work for $1 an hour but we believe in voluntary exchange and no one can coerce you.
