In the US, it's pretty easy. My wife used to live in the Tenderloin for $2400/mo and her place was nicer than this because she was good at putting things together. I don't happen to have a photo of the whole studio handy, but here's the view from the window: https://wiki.roshangeorge.dev/w/images/b/b7/Photo_-_San_Francisco_outside_Julie%27s_window_during_the_firestorms_of_2020.jpg https://wiki.roshangeorge.dev/w/images/b/b7/Photo_-_San_Fran...

- Avicebron 2mo agoPray tell how much she was making at the time to be able to afford 2400/month in rent?
- Legend2440 2mo agoKeep in mind that both wages and rents are higher in SF and not really comparable to the rest of the country.
- Avicebron 2mo agoI know, I'm still curious because a lot of people I knew who also lived there were making like 45k to 80k (8 years ago?) So it's relevant to say their job and how much they were making becauase they might be a rarified class among evev SF...which very much defeats the point of the original comment.
- fasterik 2mo ago$2400 a month is $29k per year, pretty affordable at the U.S. median household income of $83k. It's not uncommon for people living in big cities to spend a larger portion of their income on rent. And don't forget that many people have roommates.
- pibaker 2mo agoThe tenderloin, famously a place where people can afford homes.
