Win-V combo from Windows on Ubuntu

- boredishBoi 2mo agoKDE ships klipper by default which is the same thing and works fantastically. Supports multimedia and is fast, I only wish it had a cli tool instead of having to use xclip or qdbus. On windows I find ditto much more performant than the native clipboard manager.
- dundarious 2mo agoI use sway so just made a bash script that's a couple of lines to join cliphist, tofi, wl-copy, wtype, together to the same effect.
- TheAceOfHearts 2mo agoHoly crap I've been using KDE for years and I didn't know about Meta+V. I'll pay it forward by sharing another shortcut: Meta+. for emoji picker.
- isaacdl 2mo agoWindows (or at least, recent Windows 11) has that too!
- ninju 2mo agoWin+; brings up the emoji picker (works on Windows 10 as well)
- ValdikSS 2mo agoGo to Klipper → Configure Clipboard → Shortcuts And set shortcut for "Next History Item" and "Previous History Item". Believe me, it would be much better. Configure WIN+A and WIN+S for example.
- ValdikSS 2mo agoThere's also Actions Configuration, where you can implement custom actions based on the clipboard contents in Win+V dialogue. One of mine: if there's something resembling postal tracking number according to regexp, add "Print label" item which prints its barcode on my Bluetooth thermoprinter.
- drfloyd51 2mo ago+1 for Ditto. I think it is out of updates, but continue to work well.
- ValdikSS 2mo agoIt's not the same thing, it's much better, because you can have a shortcut for "clipboard backwards" and "clipboard forwards", which changes clipboard content based on the history of it. In other words, if you want 3rd history item from the top, unlike on Windows, where you need to press Win+V, down, down, enter, here I press CTRL+W, W.

- blfr 2mo agoI didn't even know super+v on Windows. Not to sound all entitled about opensource software but can we get a screenshot on GNOME? Maybe on both?
- azeemba 2mo agoWhat do people use on mac? The clipboard manager inside spotlight feels cumbersome to use
- mdrzn 2mo agoCopyClick, which shows the full history in the status bar. Main difference is that Win+V on windows also shows images/screenshots that you copied, while CopyClick only shows text. - _def 2mo agoClipTools - also does not show images but works good enough and is free. https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cliptools/id1619348240?mt=12 https://apps.apple.com/us/app/cliptools/id1619348240?mt=12
- porridgeraisin 2mo agoraycast has a clipboard manager inbuilt
- sunaookami 2mo agoI use Maccy: https://github.com/p0deje/Maccy https://github.com/p0deje/Maccy but last versions are kinda slow and it has a bug where it doesn't correctly delete old entries and the database keeps growing to >10 GB and RAM usage spikes to 1 GB.
- masfuerte 2mo agoThe emoji and symbol picker on Windows 10 has type-to-search for emojis but not for symbols. It's such an annoying restriction. It's quicker to find and copy symbols from the web than trying to find them in the picker. I don't know if Windows 11 is the same, but I hope this software hasn't copied it if it is.
- _def 2mo agoSpecifically for GNOME there are numerous extensions where at least one of them can be assigned hotkeys for: https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/779/clipboard-indicator/ https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/779/clipboard-indicat...
- senectus1 2mo agois this caching of copied data encrypted at all?
- accrual 2mo agoYeah, I do wonder how this works for those copying keys and other private strings around. I'd rather they disappear on the next ^c than be pushed into an array somewhere, or worse, stored on disk.
- kevincox 2mo agoIt is if you use full-disk-encryption which is highly recommended.
- senectus1 2mo agoso only when at rest and not while you're signed into the device?
- running101 2mo agohow is the power management on linux working for a daily driver? It has always been a pain point ?
- ta8903 2mo agoIt's fine? Might be worse than Windows, but unless you spend long times away from a charger, it doesn't really matter, does it? To answer your question, I might probably get around 5-6 hours of video playback (local files, not streamed) on my generic cheap x86 machine from 3 years ago from full to empty, but I don't have the windows equivalent numbers, and I limit charging at 80% and charge at 40% anyway so I don't actually go through a full charge cycle.
- ta8903 2mo agoGnome already has a clipboard manager (maybe it's https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/779/clipboard-indicator/ https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/779/clipboard-indicat..., but can't be sure if that's what I'm using since I'm not at home) which can be bound to super+v. It's better than the Windows equivalent because 1. It loads instantly rather than taking 2-3 seconds like the Windows version, which is super annoying 2. It retains the clipboard history across reboots, unlike the Windows version 3. It doesn't have a limit to the number of pastes saved, unlike Windows which has a limit of I think 10, so you can find entries from weeks ago 4. It's searchable 5. There's an incognito mode for when you need to copy and paste a bunch of things which you won't need later, or when you're copying sensitive information Big fan, one of those things that are such a UX improvement that make using Windows feel like a hassle.
