Why space is a terrible place to cool a data center
- paulpauper 2mo agoit's so expensive also to launch something into space. never understood logic behind it
- sandcat_ 2mo agoNot defending the logic, but a key premise behind it is the use of Starship supposedly reducing cost of launch by 10-100x. Again, not saying that's feasible, but that's the goal.

- Zigurd 2mo agoThis idea gained visibility when a bunch of Google employees did a study claiming it was theoretically possible, in that it wasn't physically impossible. Of course a fully reusable upper stage rocket that needs refueling to go beyond low Earth orbit is also not physically impossible. But it is necessary for that rocket to meet all of its design goals and cost goals for even one element of the orbiting data center idea to be practical.
