What was the point of this?
It ended up being a story about regretting having kids, glorifying in grass-is-greener fashion the alternative, when author should consider themselves lucky to have the option.
I wonder if the author realizes some people work and start companies out of necessity - because there is no other path to personal freedom.
He says he misses the freedom but he already has what many work their lives for. Just spoiled IMO
I don’t have kids but I imagine it would only make entrepreneurship more interesting - someone to build the dream for, or around, or at least someone to leave it all to.
- skrebbel 2mo ago> Just spoiled IMO Honest, vulnerable writing is often like that. I recognize that this is HN where everybody constantly pretends to have everything all figured out, so maybe this article is a bad fit. But I mean, you feel the feelings you feel, you daydream the dreams you do. Whether that makes you seem "spoiled" doesn't really factor into any of that, it still happens.
- fyredge 2mo agoMy takeaway is not that the author is spoiled, but has not had the opportunity to see the fuller picture. More often than not, we see only the surface of another's life. More importantly, we see the things we want from others while not acknowledging the sacrifices required to obtain it.

And while I see myself as a pretty productive person I can't really imagine how one can be an entrepreneur and a father (we are talking about small child here) at the same time, unless your woman is a happy housewife and very likely you have support from at least one of grandparents. First 3-5 years are just to demanding even if your child is born when it's due (and not on 31st week like in my case), without any "surprises" (my daughter is allergic to beef, dairy, chicken and its eggs and you learn it hard way). If you are even less lucky - you spend even more time with doctors and all kinds of places you didn't even know existed.
