Jellyfish-hit French nuclear plant shuts down three reactors
- pvaldes 2mo agoYep, the almighty nuclear plants that everybody says that can't fail, can be closed by life beings. Is known since many years. I assume that is Craspedacusta (I may be wrong). Better than zebra mussels in any case.
- dpedu 2mo ago> Reactor 1 runs at 50% output as a preventative measure, EDF says > Reactor 5 was already offline for maintenance and reactor 6 remains fully operational, EDF says > EDF expects quick restart after cleanup as no new jellyfish are arriving, an engineer says This seems like a graceful degradation, not an outright failure or closure.
- pvaldes 2mo ago> no new jellyfish are arriving The problem will fix itself in winter, but new blooms will happen sporadically while temperatures remain high.
