I think this is exactly right. My son is a new CS Masters graduate and after hundreds of applications he got a job at a Bay Area AI startup. Pay is OK, but relatively low. Hours are crazy. His main goal is to stick it out for at least a year and see where it goes -- at least he's getting the experience and job title. The company is just a couple of years old, and the churn rate is high.
