Tell HN: Striking a Balance Between Stating Your Requirements and Griefers
The frontier models have become very capable, so that I'm able to give advanced algorithms and tasks for them to complete autonomously. These sometimes go over the heads of low-IQ bullies who dropped out of their computer science courses because they were too difficult, and went into a career in bullying programmers.
I've noticed that when I make my intention and acceptance criteria very clear to the models, sometimes it's the only part the griefers understand, since the computer science portion goes over their heads. So they focus their bullying on just breaking the intention and final result, whatever is actually truly important.
This puts programmers like me in the awkward position of either talking to the models without telling the models the final intention or reason, i.e. the acceptance criteria, or risk putting it in plain language so the model knows it, but then allowing a bully to fuck that one thing up because it's the only thing they understand, not understanding data structures, algorithms, engineering or architecture, etc.
Basically, if you put into plain words what you're really looking for, a griefer can fuck that one thing up.
There is no easy answer to the problem of these griefers. It's a problem in every anonymous community, but exacerbated when the griefers are granted some special anonymity.
So far, I haven't found a great solution to it, but I am open to new ideas and feedback. How do you deal with low-IQ bully griefers fucking everything up?

- JohnFen 2mo agoWhat's a "griefer"? How can they mess you up based on your prompt? I don't understand what you're talking about here, and the video doesn't work without having an account, so I can't watch it.
- gryfft 2mo agoOP seems to be drifting between referring to other people and talking about responses from LLMs. He seems to blame "griefers" for his vibe coded software not coming out the way he wants. He has lots of ad hominem insults for these... People? Perceived gremlins in the machine? The video didn't explain who he's working on the project with, or what the project is ultimately for. It doesn't address any of your explicit or implicit questions. You are saving yourself time and frustration by not watching it. Edit: based on earlier submissions by OP, he seems to think that anytime an LLM does not do what he means, it is due to intentional and malicious actions taken by human beings. OP, in all seriousness, please get help.
- logicallee 2mo agoThis is correct. In 2026, when a frontier model does the opposite of a reasonable clearly stated requirement that is perfectly normal and ordinary, doesn't touch anything that would be covered by any system policy, guideline, or other prompt, etc, it means a human is fucking it up. For example, if you tell the frontier ChatGPT image model, "Create a picture of a bunch of exactly 2 bananas; they should be joined in a bunch, and not have any other bananas in the bunch, should be exactly 2." and the picture shows 1 single banana, then, on the other half of the picture, a second single banana and with a second cut-off stem showing where a second banana would be, that means you're dealing with a griefer. -> in 2026, 100% of simple, ordinary, non-compliance by frontier models is a human bully in the loop. They also automate their griefing in the form of malicious system prompts they inject, to grief at scale.
- gryfft 2mo agoI mean this as gently as I can say it. You either have a grievous misunderstanding of how frontier models work, or are developing the beginnings of schizophrenia. YOU are the human in the loop. There is no griefing human messing up your LLM chats. If you have been taking a break from prescribed psychiatric medication, I ask you to please, take your medicine and speak with your doctor.
