Same way comp is always set up - based on the market conditions.
Whatever is the lowest expense you can afford to still attract someone you need.
Based on my experience, there is never a lack of young, brave and naive people who still buy into the startup romantics. Or just want some exciting adventures. So many startups' comp partially consists of cool titles, bells and whistles.
- dweisinger 2mo agoI think this is exactly right. My son is a new CS Masters graduate and after hundreds of applications he got a job at a Bay Area AI startup. Pay is OK, but relatively low. Hours are crazy. His main goal is to stick it out for at least a year and see where it goes -- at least he's getting the experience and job title. The company is just a couple of years old, and the churn rate is high.
