It would work until you need to route an international call.
And there's a lot of telemarketing and scams happening across country lines.
I mean, they should still do it. It's just the first problem they'd face.
- inigyou 2mo agoThat's fine. International calls pay a dollar a minute. If telemarketers had to pay that they'd be out of business.
- bonzini 2mo agoInternational calls pay whatever the caller network wants them to pay. You're assuming that the caller network isn't part of the scam.
- inigyou 2mo agoIncorrect, it's the callee network
- bonzini 2mo agoSure but the caller network bills the telemarketer and they could be in cahoots.
- inigyou 2mo agoWell yeah but that applies to local calls too and no telemarketer will sign up with a provider more expensive than they need.
- bonzini 2mo agoYes, but the premise here is that for national calls it becomes harder to spoof the caller id. In fact, here in Italy we're seeing an increase in telemarketing calls from Spain and France, so it's not entirely hypothetical.

- AnssiH 2mo agoIn Finland international inbound calls using Finnish caller ID are simply blocked (mandated by regulation since 2023).
- Marsymars 2mo agoI'd love to be able to opt out of receiving any calls originating from out-of-country.
