The problem is Phone numbers. No Band-Aids will fix them.
- Gigachad 2mo agoThere have actually been a number of band aids which have been fixing it. A few years ago I used to receive multiple malicious text messages and phone calls a day, then the Aus government cracked down on verification requirements for senders and I get zero. I still get constant unsolicited sales calls but these are technically legal.

- Cider9986 2mo agoThey are long-term identifiers that are repeated across services so leaks are detrimental and it's easy to spam them. Not even mentioning the terrible security of the cellular network (ss7) and terrible carrier security (sim swapping). It's caused probably hundreds of millions in crypto losses and billions in fraud.
