There’s a guy in Wellington making a photocopied weekly gig guide which will do more for the local music scene than this attempt at making a profitable social media. I guarantee it.

- ColdStream 2mo agoThat is brilliant! I love the older style layout, it is much more readable that 99% of websites available today. Also that Classified section is wonderful.
- mastazi 2mo agothat's beautiful, I really wish there was more media like this
- angled 2mo agoReminds me of the Tokyo Gig Guide, which I always hit up when I’m in town. https://www.tokyogigguide.com/en/ https://www.tokyogigguide.com/en/
- berghoffer 2mo agoIts actually a small volunteer crew not one guy, and they are great! We have shared their posts on our socials, they do the guide, a weekly access radio show, free classifieds, all self funded... Which is exactly what Propel exists to support. On the profitable social media bit. I have been a worker in the scene for 8 years, running events, promoting other people, pushing the scene. And i'll keep doing it here because I love it, not because theres money in it.
- em-bee 2mo agobut if you are not volunteering then your ability to do it still depends on there being money in it.
- alwa 2mo agoEh… seems to me that in a lot of scenes, “volunteer”-vs-“paid” is something of a spectrum…
- em-bee 2mo agonaturally. as in any space that has people doing it for love but also has people paying to participate. in FOSS too. see also my other comment...
- wffurr 2mo agoGotta pay the rent somehow. There has to be enough money in it somewhere for people to pay the rent so they can put the time in, or it doesn't happen.
- em-bee 2mo agoof course. that's the point. what matters is that there still is enough money in it that enables some people to make a living of it. and that's great. since we are discussing a decline, people no longer being able to make a living are the first casualties. being able to do get paid for that work is a sign of health. as someone involved with Free Software and Open Source, i can sympathize. the number of people who can get paid while at the same time doing it for the love of it is very small. i love to work on FOSS too, but i can't afford to do it without getting paid.
- mbo 2mo agoreminds me of https://nyc-noise.com/ https://nyc-noise.com/
- joshbode 2mo agoSimilarly invaluable resource for San Francisco - The List: https://jon.luini.com/thelist/date.html Gloriously web 1.0, extremely functional and easy to scan through.
- dyauspitr 2mo agoThere is so much dense information in a single pamphlet. Beautiful.
- didntknowyou 2mo agoit’s cool but really no need to put someone down for trying things. also welly is not the sole place for gigs.
