I think you missed the point. Any negotiation, from the point of view of the author, was a negative and unfair outcome.
He had paid to rent the space for a particular purpose. He had already compromised by allowing a portion of the space to be less than ideal for his use. The other side was demanding “completely our way and nothing for you” given fabricated reasons.
He did not care to understand because he could tell the reasons were not legitimate.
No was the right answer and to call the manager’s bluff. He does t make the final decision, the owner does.

Because he didn't negotiate, he got the most predictable negative outcome: Everyone turned against him. As for unfair: Did you read the part where he was doing yoga alone in one room and he tried to argue with 12 people in a different room that they also had to turn their A/C off? This was someone who wanted to get their way and didn't care about anyone else. They were put into a shared space where people have to talk and come to an agreement. Instead of talking and trying to come to an agreement, he put his fingers in his ears and tried to control everyone else around him. Predictably, they all turned on him.
