- A_D_E_P_T 2mo ago> Christopher Benton hit another car, what he called a “little bumper accident,” in 2023. The Adelanto, Calif., lab technician assumed his $5,000 liability-coverage insurance claim would sail through. But Allstate-owned National General refused to pay a cent. The reason? His 15-year-old son. > The teenager wasn’t in the family’s 2012 Chevrolet Silverado at the time of the fender-bender. He didn’t even have a driver’s license. But National General said his absence from the policy application breached its requirement to disclose all household members ages 14 or over. I love how you're quite literally forced to pay them for "coverage" -- in many cases quite large monthly sums -- and if anything happens and you need to collect, they'll use every trick in the book to weasel out of paying you. It would be awesome if there were a sham-insurance company that would give me the rubber-stamped form, inure me from legal and business consequences, and never pay out. (Via unreasonable conditions of reimbursement in a legally-defensible plain-English contract.) I'd unironically buy this product if it cost 1/10th to 1/5th what the "real" insurance companies charge.
