What a weird read. I'm an immigrant in Berlin for almost 5 years and my feelings are completely the opposite. I find the Germans impractical, rude, unproductive (always focusing on process instead of outcome... Or on doing the dishes apparently). I also experienced quite a bit of racism. Mind you, it's mostly not the overt racism you could find in other places, but it creeps into everything, it just feels that as a migrant I've got less opportunities and, yes, rights (which doesn't mean that I don't legally have them, it just means that in practice they're much harder to claim). Welfare is either being taken advantage of or stripped away in an inconsiderate and stupid way. And let's not talk about the political system: with a fascist right and a useless left that only cares about signaling (but this is an issue on most of Europe). All in all I just see a falling country without hope for recovery. Well that was my depressing TED talk, happy Sunday!
