Apple to require iOS apps must have minimum OS version of iOS 15 in 2027 onwards
- aurareturn 2mo agoiOS 15 will be 6 years old in 2027. The oldest iPhone that supports iOS 15 is the iPhone 6s, released in 2015. I think this is fair.
- busymom0 2mo agoI don't see why though. Why not just let the developers do their thing? My hacker news app HACK supports from ios 11 and there's a few devices still using it. There is no reason for me to drop support for them except Apple forcing me to.
- dabinat 2mo agoiOS 15 is a really old version but if developers want to put in the effort to support old versions, why not let them? Sometimes it feels like Apple thinks I work for them and have the same priorities as they do (i.e. making more money for Apple). They have every right to allow or disallow any apps in their store, but they shouldn’t be the arbiter of what runs on the entire platform. That’s why there should be different app stores with different rules and priorities available globally.
- ouz-a 2mo agoI bet it's entirely due to security reasons.
- igor_arsenkin 2mo agoInteresting, I have an app in the App Store with a minimum iOS version of 13.0. What will happen to it if I don't update it?
- busymom0 2mo agoI think existing apps will stay as they are but any new updates won't be submitted unless we bump up the version.
