something I've really been wondering about is is mv2 really a serious security loophole? if I think about it, browser extensions really do have a scary amount of access to sensitive webpages, so google's rationale for restricting the attack surface is at least plausible. and as the maintainers of the overwhelmingly dominant browser, they can't build ad blocking into the core engine, not because google is an ad company, but simply because that level of putting their thumb on the scales would lead to a huge backlash.
