Buying a cheap secondhand motherboard is still less lousy than losing access to a game collection. I did that with a 13 years old computer and it cost 50€. I agree that the current situation sucks, but I don't think one can say it locks someone on your situation out of your game collection. (edit: misremembered, $2000 is not the price of the game collection)
