I am the same way. I also graduated from the University of Michigan which has a great sports program, so this is usually the ice breaker in interviews, meeting with clients etc.. when they see my resume. I usually bow out and change the subject quickly.
I enjoy talking politics as well, but in many ways is just as pointless and arbitrary..."my side of the aisle is better than yours". When your presidential candidate makes a goof he is an idiot, when mine does it he is misunderstood.
- icebraining 14y agoDiscussing politics is not the same as discussing politicians. I enjoy the former, but the latter bores me to tears.
- crazygringo 14y agoI agree. I'm fascinated by politics in a structural way -- ideologies, movements, narratives, red states vs blue states, liberalism vs conservatism, states' rights and federalism, etc. But there are lot of people who don't seem to care about that at all, but rather follow politics like sports or soap operas -- which politician said what, how that affects their polling, etc. There are two very different ways of being "into" politics.
