Organ donation group trying to take living man's organs faces shutdown
- golem14 2mo ago"The organization, Network for Hope, “strongly disagrees” with Trump admin’s decision." I'm not sure what the "Trump admin" has to do with that. Shutting them down for now seems like a very reasonable decision.
- k310 2mo ago> NFH said it “strongly disagrees” with the HHS’s finding and will appeal the decertification decision. HHS is part of the administration.
- golem14 2mo agoYes, but the subtitle makes it sound like it's a political decision (Trump's fault). It does not seem to be, on closer reading. I feel that the choice of words is unfortunate, and I hope it's not intentional.
- k310 2mo agoIt's common to lump agency actions under "Trump administration" or "Biden administration" I personally would not use "Trump admin" and would name only the agency. If it's common, as I noted, it's probably not aimed at Trump micromanagement. I find a lot of agencies "just doing their jobs" as in following up on computer fraud, because promotions are still based on getting the job done, AFAICT.
- treetalker 2mo ago> … a Kentucky-based organ procurement organization that made headlines over a 2021 incident in which it was accused of trying to harvest a man’s organs while he was still alive … > … a 2021 incident in which a Kentucky man in his 30s began visibly crying, pulled his knees to his chest, and shook his head as he was wheeled into surgery to have his organs harvested. The man, Anthony Thomas Hoover II, had overdosed and had been unresponsive for two days before his family agreed to donate his organs, believing he would not recover. > But as the organ retrieval neared, he began showing signs of improvement, which allegedly went ignored by organ procurement workers while making the hospital staff deeply uncomfortable.
