- cogman10 2mo agoWhen I last looked into this, flying private started somewhere around 10k a seat. Not cheap, but also something non-centimillionaires can afford.
- polishdude20 2mo agoBut is it 10k if you fill the plane? Or could I get one all to myself for 10k?
- cogman10 2mo agoI believe it was ~10k per passenger. You'd end up sharing the plane with other people going to the same location. Looking it up again, it looks like the way they generally charge is per hour of flying. Low end is $2k per hour with the high end being $10k per hour. I'm guessing the type of jet and accommodations makes all the difference.
- caminante 2mo agoThis is right. Then "true cost" requires a rabbit hole of business expense write-offs, fixed v. marginal costs, speed, comfort, (sub-)leasing, which airport you fly into, O&M strategies, and more. Per the article, your fractional share of a 10M plane with 1M/y of maintenance gets you 100 hr/y.
- alphawhisky 2mo agoGross. Thinking about the disparity between the consumers "and creators" of this service vs. any working class family makes me sick. Nasty business for dirty, disgusting people.

- LargoLasskhyfv 2mo agoThey are not on time. Jet arrives and takes off on your time, as ordered.
- dieselgate 2mo agoBoth can be delayed for myriad reasons. Air travel is inherently faster, however.
- LargoLasskhyfv 2mo agoI know. But anything Amtrak is almost never on time, with the exception of some 'corridors' on the east-coast, where they own the tracks.
- wpm 2mo agoExcept when it doesn't
- caminante 2mo agoDon't be that guy. You can't compare flying private, let alone commercial to riding Amtrak. Amtrak doesn't get priority reliably enforced outside the Northeast and the delays are legendary.
