AI is and is only going to dig deeper into the profession. Your job now is to embrace it and learn to use it to create solutions. The old model of getting specs from a manager of some kind and turning them into code is quickly going away. You job is to help define the specs and writing the instructions for the AI to program. Also, reading code like it's text in a book is a must. Writing code is quickly becoming something of the past. I suspect that programming is going to be more like putting together blocks of code that are completely debuged will be the future. The true valuable skill will be understanding what a human customer needs and getting the machine to write it. That skill will not go away any time soon.

The more you read code the better you will get at reading it and writing it. Writing code will only get you so far. Reading code will expand your abilities so much more. Even code armatures will improve by reading as much code as possible,
