- asutekku 2mo agoGolf courses do not emit noise, they are relatively nice looking and they are not a threat for people to be unemployed.
- PlasmaPower 2mo agoYeah, those might be some of the other factors. My point is just that actual water use does not explain datacenter pushback well, despite being a predominant argument against them.
- amanaplanacanal 2mo agoI hear electricity prices and noise about as often as water usage.
- majormajor 2mo agoWell nobody is eminent domaining existing data centers, are they? Try to build as many new golf courses as there are new data centers going up and you might get a similar reaction...

- SoftTalker 2mo agoA lot of golf courses are owned by cities or other public entities.
- PlasmaPower 2mo agoThen they should be even easier to shut down if they're viewed as a wasteful use of water! I think the fact that they are not shut down is evidence that people do not in fact view them as such, or at least not as much people view data centers as a waste of water.

- toofy 2mo agoof course there are other factors at play here. has anyone tried to hide their motives? look, i use llms for some work and for some hobby projects, but lets not pretend like the companies behind the llm bubble would ever fight fair. that would be naive to an extreme.
