What is a "fiber transmitter"?
- jamesmcn 14y agoAny of a number of different wireless transmitters plugged into fiber. There are laser transceivers for use in open air, but they don't work particularly well in rain or fog. So not great for Seattle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-space_optical_communication http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free-space_optical_communicatio...
- jauer 14y agoMost likely a catchphrase to disguise the fact that they are using millimeter or microwave radio links to provide a 1Gbps connection to specific buildings that they can't (yet) reach with fiber.
