- moate 2mo agoSince people seem to be disagreeing with a fact: https://digitalcommons.usf.edu/etd/1862/ https://digitalcommons.usf.edu/etd/1862/ https://academic.oup.com/policing/article-abstract/6/4/418/1460221?redirectedFrom=fulltext&login=false https://academic.oup.com/policing/article-abstract/6/4/418/1... https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S1359178916301331?via%3Dihub https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S13591...
- f6v 2mo ago> Don't let the women you care about get involved with cops. I don't see any difference between what you just said and "13-85".
- john_strinlai 2mo ago>and "13-85". what does this specific lingo mean? normal searches and ai are both as confused as i am
- dessimus 2mo agoI'm going to assume that commenter is referring to 'black crime rates' claiming that they make up 13% of the population while claiming that 85% of crime or some segment like violent crime is committed by them.

- UncleMeat 2mo agoBeing a cop is a choice. Being black is not.
- f6v 2mo agoBut it's a fallacy to say all are wife beaters, like the parent said.
- pksebben 2mo agoRecontextualized: *A person who chooses a career centered around the use of force is more likely to use force in their personal life*. Ahdunno, where's the lie?
- f6v 2mo ago> where's the lie Don't know, right there? I did martial arts and beat many people up, I even enjoyed it on many occasions. Doesn't mean I beat people in other contexts. It's called compartmentalizing.
- iAMkenough 2mo agoFor your compartmentalization efforts, did you get a bastardized American flag with a special thin colored line through it? Cop culture nationwide is toxic as fuck. Can’t say the same about martial arts culture.
- lcnPylGDnU4H9OF 2mo agoParent didn't say "all are wife beaters" but that they are statistically more likely to be. The rephrasing in the sibling comment to mine is similarly accurate, even if you don't like the way it sounds.
- Henchman21 2mo ago60% of the spouses of police officers report being victims of domestic violence. The other 40% are too scared to answer honestly. Seems like that might be indicative of a problem?
- s1artibartfast 2mo agoNot necessarily. One can accept that violent people do a violent job and commit violence in their home life. Anyways, that study that everyone loves to cite is like 30 or 40 years old and unreplicated.
- mbfg 2mo ago"not necessarly" and "more likely" are not at all at odds with each other.
- quickthrowman 2mo agoPeople who use the threat of violence and actual violence to control people at work being more likely to do so at home to their own family seems self-evident to me. Not making any moral judgements, if I used violence professionally I’d expect myself to be more violent in general.
- alwa 2mo agoLesbians too [0]. And people who don’t make much money [1]. And people who aren’t Asian [2]. And athletes, and people who like sports [3]. Applying group statistics to judge individual people is almost never proper, and lies at the root of an awful lot of inhumanity. I hope and imagine the women in question are capable of thinking (and judging) for themselves. - magicalist 2mo ago> Lesbians too [0] > A 2010 CDC survey compared domestic violence victimization rates between lesbian, bisexual, and heterosexual women. The differences between most forms of reported domestic violence rates between lesbian women and heterosexual women were found to be non-significant due to insufficient statistical power. ??
- kazinator 2mo ago> Applying group statistics to judge individual people is almost never proper That's literally the job of statistics: make use of a lot of data about a population of instances to make a decision about an instance. It's like saying, it's unfair to use safety data about Chevys in deciding whether to buy one.
- EasyMark 2mo agoWe aren't judging individuals here, we're talking about trends and probabilies. I know a couple cops that are fine, and pretty sure aren't abusing their spouses, but that doesn't invalidate the statistics that they have more instances of abuse at a much higher rate in marriages/partnerships than the masses taken as a whole
- EasyMark 2mo agoThat's not too unexpected because the career often attract aggressive types of people
