A lot of the discussion here is pretty surprising. Saying "The information is in people's heads" is wild considering the allegations involve taking screenshots of documents, not just fond memories of working on hardware. Apple deserves a lot of criticism for how it's acted when losing employees, but these allegations are about a lot more than that.
- EA-3167 2mo agoIf OpenAI is willing to encourage people to commit literal crimes on their behalf as clumsily as we've seen evidence of, why would they hesitate to try and shift opinion on a site like this? Plus there has always been a bitter contingent of devs that hate the terms of getting on the App Store, and people who hate any hardware they can't fully control from the NAND up.
- senordevnyc 2mo agoGood thing there’s no bitter contingent of devs who hate Sam!
- EA-3167 2mo agoHe’s arguably one of the more hated public figures outside of politics, it would be much easier to list his die-hard fans.
- lostlogin 2mo agoDoes Musk count as outside or inside politics?
- preisschild 2mo agoBoth Musk and Sam Altman count. They are very active in politics.
- llelouch 2mo agoOpenai and their loyals absolutely use bots to change public opinion. There has been a massive psyop campaign ever since the DOD contract that they signed.
- sysguest 2mo agowait I can't find "The information is in people's heads" in that article (what's the exact phrase?) btw, if that's the problem, why not chop it off before leaving? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- Der_Einzige 2mo agoAll openAI has to do is actually live up to their name and literally all will be forgiven among the good people in tech
- Ouman 2mo agoApple still has to prove the allegations and show that they justify an injunction against the product itself
- Hugsbox 2mo agoYou think Apple would go through all this trouble if they didn't think they had a rock-solid case?
- bogdan 2mo agoYes. They have done so in the past and according to open ai they have lied with certain details. This article portrays Apple quite differently OpenAI hits back at Apple over ‘oddly personal’ trade secrets fight - https://www.ft.com/content/7da4af42-178d-431a-91db-7e82eecc98dd?shareType=nongift https://www.ft.com/content/7da4af42-178d-431a-91db-7e82eecc9... via @FT
- Hugsbox 2mo agoI may be ignorant on the matter, maybe they've done that kind of thing before. >according to OpenAI The most juvenile "press release" I've ever seen a company post on purpose isn't the strongest evidence against them, though. Forgive me if I take everything OpenAI say with an ocean's worth of salt.
- comfysocks 2mo agoAbsolutely. I don’t know how strong their case is or isn’t, BUT if you hire Jony Ive and a bunch of Apple device people in order to build something that is a threat to the “Apple tax” revenue machine, they are coming after you without a doubt.
