Why does everyone suddenly hate data centers?
- mapping365 2mo agoI think the easiest explanation is that this buildout is starving the rest of the economy of capital. People can see these massive numbers going into data centers and how the rest of the economy is stagnating. People see the zero-sumness of it.
- elmer2 2mo agoThe direct result of the data centers will be the destruction of more jobs in the future and a harder economy for everyone. The data centers in years past meant more jobs and opportunities.

- Danox 2mo agoThe cost of memory being sky high, and the cost of all tech items going up with it with the result that many people no longer have the same enthusiasm for those AI models like they had two 2 1/2 years ago when OpenAI gave their public presentation with Sam Altman, Ilya Sutskever and Mira Murati on stage at that event, doesn’t mean AI won’t be part of the computer future, but they (AI) was never higher than at that time everything seemed possible. Reality has come to the table.
- 47635274172635 2mo agoThe way I understand it is that these datacenters intrude in the lives of many in rural areas, have a massive environmental impact at least at local level, and will also be used to basically replace human work. So the average Joe doesn't feel like he's getting much out of it.
