I was amused by the compulsively positive way this article is written. I don't think I've had read about "falling in love" with a designer drug or about "chemsex enthusiasts" before.
All good, let people do what they want to do, but no downsides at all, even for the other drugs mentioned?
Cocaine's problem is "the irritation", Ecstasy has too much of a "hard comedown"? And all of them are addictive, but that's just a "potentially fatal flaw"?
Interesting parallel universe you got there.
Oh and:
> Perhaps it will turn out to be like MDMA, which saw its recreational market explode after being banned. So far, 3-MMC’s supply chains, which trace back to industrial labs in China and India, have held steady. With its irresistible mix of pleasure and productivity, 3-MMC might just be the drug for our time.
Illegality? Details, details...
- fingerlocks 3mo agoFor every addict, there are many responsible adults that can set healthy boundaries and have a positive relationship with recreational drugs. This article is for them.
- xg15 3mo agoI don't see an audience description in the article. Especially if you're a responsible adult, wouldn't you want to be informed about the downsides?
- znpy 3mo agoAwful take on the matter. They’re all responsible adults until something goes wrong and they do something horrible.
- fingerlocks 3mo agoA responsible adult prepares in advance for any risk of something horrible happening. This is why sober Trip Sitters exist. There is actually a market for this; you can pay someone to be your designated driver of drugs. Very common
- bpavuk 3mo agomhm, just take a look at many families that were destroyed thanks to alcohol
- znpy 3mo agoIn the specific case of alcohol you should also take a look at how many families were created due to alcohol
- Aurornis 3mo agoA key component of setting healthy boundaries is being honest about the downsides and the problems when used irresponsibly. This article is not that at all.
- bitcoin_anon 3mo agoAnd for every adult who believes they have healthy boundaries with recreational drugs, how many are addicts? Based on my experience, I find the words healthy and recreational to be carrying too much water in this context.
- andy99 3mo agoThey talk about partying all night and then going to work on drugs.
- swat535 3mo agoEveryone thinks they can set boundaries with regards to drugs, until they try it and realize that they can't. I don't think anyone trying out hard drugs for the first time thinks that they will be addicted forever. In fact they think: "trying it once couldn't hurt". I think the number of people who are able to set boundaries with regards to addictive substances is in the minority, which is why I'm in favor of regulation for these. That being said, I think that providing clean equipment and environments for addicts is better than putting them in jail. Unfortunately though, many end up suffering from mental illness and become a danger.
- skeeter2020 3mo agoWhat about: >> In an era obsessed with both hedonism and productivity... This sounds like the exhausting root problem, and I don't want to participate in maxing either.
- vvbull 3mo agoIf you don't know at least a few chemsex enthusiasts, you might be leading a pretty sheltered life. While I'm not into chemsex, it's not exactly uncommon either. Plenty of folks out there getting high and going at it because they enjoy the experience more.
- singleshot_ 3mo ago> you might be leading a pretty sheltered life. Or (and stick with me here) you might be normal.
- inigyou 3mo agoMaybe sheltered lives are normal, at least among HN users. Did I tell you about Fusion Festival yet?
