a lot of tragic things keep happening to the ruby ecosystem.
the language has improved in the recent additions - ractors, it's faster now & always a pleasure to write.
however the ruby ecosystem has a tendency to deny reality - ruby is falling down rankings - people deny that's false but everything points to that.
the ecosystem is not willing to move away from rails. & DHHs antics don't help either.
- shevy-java 2mo agoAgreed. Though, I don't even think rails + DHH is the biggest issue. I did not use or need rails and had no issue with DHH, but now that he is driving shopify policy and ruby devs were eliminated, the situation is no longer neutral. Something changed to the worse in the ruby ecosystem, that is clear. I get less restriction at github-Microsoft than I get at rubygems.org - that part in itself is super-strange. The folks who were responsible for ruining rubygems.org should really reconsider. Look at how the new visual look is - it sucks. (It was not great before, mind you, but finding things takes much longer than it used to be before; that visual change is only perhaps 2 or 3 months old. Who is driving these crazy changes?)

- kimos 2mo agoMost recently he compared Roma people to wolves that should be exterminated, a post so openly racist that an LLM refused to translate it.
- robin_reala 2mo agoAs someone else pointed out, he’s really doing everything he can to put the HH in DHH. (Lest that seem a flippant comment, see also https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romani_Holocaust https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romani_Holocaust)

- arein3 2mo agoHealthy societies would agree. Infantile societies that would condemn this are doomed to only go down to lowest what they tolerate (guys who defecate in bushes) Also, how is speech/writing a hate crime? It is an opinion, and even if i disagree i would want for all to have option to express themselves without it being a crime, as it's not a crime, it's an idea which you can think and disagree
- rbanffy 2mo agoWhen an opinion states clearly that your people are to be treated like wolves, that should be treated as a pest, maybe you’ll see it differently. I hope you never experience that first hand, and I’m disappointed so many Europeans are so willing to fall for the same discourse that led us to WWII.

- arein3 2mo agoYeah, I read the 2021 bandcamp controversy summed up by llm, it sounded so bad. Then I got into it and it was completely fine.

Did he have a second article that I missed where he said they should be killed? I don't like the guy and think there are plenty of things you could criticize him for, but it seems like you are just lying about what he said.
