When the apocalypse happens, I am sure of two things:
1) I will be able to play DOOM on something.
2) I will be able to watch Bad Apple on something.
I suppose there are worse fates.
- bigyabai 2mo agoIt'll be like that episode of The Twilight Zone with the guy's glasses when you find a CD with Crysis on it but only have a Voodoo 5 installed.
- argee 2mo agoI had similar situations in my youth, I have fond memories of hacking games up so they'd work without the 3D models. You haven't lived until you've played Mafia only being able to see the player's shadow beating up the target's shadow with a bat.
- w-ll 2mo agoPlease elaborate, were the worlds not 3d? I guess shadows where gradient sprits on the the ground, but im curios to what you did?
- argee 2mo agoYes, anything that was statically lit was fine. The game had absurdly low graphics requirements for modern standards, but even so I didn't have a GPU, just integrated graphics. So hacking the game to not render dynamically lit items was enough to make it playable (also needed some tweaks that would let it even launch in the first place). I obviously can't say exactly what I did though, this was a very, very long time ago (24 years).

- Wowfunhappy 2mo agoWell, the first several minutes, anyway. Some future civilization which recovers only ASCII Star Wars will be unaware how the story ends. It will be a subject of great debate among scholars.

- TZubiri 2mo agoWas thinking the same thing. Bad Apple is the Doom for when you hacked your toaster's creen, but it doesn't have inputs
- doublerabbit 2mo agoThat, and while you're scavenging for the remaining parts of technology you can always question: But, can it play Crysis?
