Why only now? UEFA should boycott the world cup, period. It should have been enough even before the Balogun nonsense. They have the best league and the best teams, they have the know how and could easily host the UEFA World Cup.
They could host a tournament without the pay-to-win arbitrary overruling of red cards and the clownish half time entertainment. Nobody would care about the FIFA World Cup.
Fork it!
- hermitcrab 3mo agoAnd run it on exactly the same dates as any FIFA matches.
- xorcist 3mo agoExactly! You would have a number of oil states competing, and that's it. They have everything to win. It's opposite of the PGA/LIV situation, the breakout group have the stronger trademark and the better teams. It's baffling that UEFA didn't move in already when FIFA was too greedy even for EA, which is saying something.
- smotched 3mo agoUEFA is not an angel, they generate far more money than FIFA from TV rights, sponsorships, and tickets. They also just don't want to ever lose that.
- TheRoque 3mo agoIsn't it a non profit too ? But you seem to imply it's going into individual's pockets ?
- throw1234567891 3mo agoThe non-profit makes no profit but it doesn’t mean those involved can’t make profits. An investment in a new jet for the boss is an investment back into the non-profit!

- mcmcmc 3mo agoDoesn’t the majority of that go back to the clubs that make it to European competitions though?
- mktemp-d 3mo agoHere is the UEFA business model according to their statements. https://www.uefa.com/running-competitions/financial-distribution/our-business-model/ https://www.uefa.com/running-competitions/financial-distribu... 97% returns to the club and 9.3% is ear marked for football development programs. Some of the money is utilized as reimbursement to clubs that did not manage to qualify. PS Treating HN like a search engine is not constructive. No flak tho, I also do this sometimes.
- manquer 3mo agoIt was a rhetorical question[1] I believe , the purpose was not to obtain information . [1]used as aporetic or perhaps even epiplectic device
- mvc 3mo agoYeah, none to the African, South American, or Asian nations who contribute many of the best players though. And they don't share it around their own countries that well either with all the revenue going to the big 5 and the rest can just go sing.
- isr 3mo agoBefore you eulogize UEFA too much (ok, too late, you already did), answer me this. Where did Infantino come from? Answer: UEFA And for that matter, which continent did his predecessor Sepp Blatter start his football admin career in? Hint: he's not from Asia or Africa Probably the most widely admired admin in big-time football right now is al-Khalifa, the head of PSG. A Qatari. You know - those guys who organized by common consent is considered the best World Cup in modern times (during which EUROPEAN teams were ostentatiously protesting on the pitch - while keeping VERY quiet WHEN playing a World Cup in a country who is still facilitating an ONGOING GENOCIDE) . And from reports, he doesn't want to touch FIFA with a 10 foot barge pole. Europe had managed to keep the lions share of footballs global revenues to itself, while keeping Africa as basically a "football nursery" where teenagers get almost trafiked across Europe before 90% are discarded. This is one of the reasons why a (corrupt, mendacious & sly) Infantino had some support across Africa & Asia. Because he played off that imbalance. Rather like one mafioso giving you "protection" against another mafia mob. Just saying, Europe & UEFA arent necessarily the angels in any of this ...
- ByThyGrace 3mo ago> while keeping VERY quiet WHEN playing a World Cup in a country who is still facilitating an ONGOING GENOCIDE It's mystifying that this claim can be made ambiguously to more than one former World Cup host.
- kergonath 3mo ago> Where did Infantino come from? Answer: UEFA That’s such a weak argument. So every European person or organisation guilty by association? Are the Swiss doubly guilty? > Europe had managed to keep the lions share of footballs global revenues to itself, while keeping Africa as basically a "football nursery" where teenagers get almost trafiked across Europe before 90% are discarded. UEFA is not running any African competition or including any African team. What’s your point? African federations might see the short term gains of Infantino’s bribes, but long term maximising profit is corrosive. They have a much better shot at growing the African cup of nations, which is not doing too bad and increasing in popularity (even in Europe to some degree). It is not hypocritical of UEFA to point that out. > Just saying, Europe & UEFA arent necessarily the angels in any of this That’s a strawman. Nobody said that.
