Mark Zuckerberg is becoming the king of the 'side quest'
- xprnio 3mo agoNo, that award will forever be bestowed to Snoop Dogg, at least in my book
- sghiassy 3mo agoD-oh-double-G! No seeds, no stems, no sticks
- xprnio 3mo agoThat’s the thing - his side quests have nothing to do with weed (aside from him occasionally mixing it in) - Twitch streaming, a cooking show with Martha Steward, a kids songs and nursery rhymes channel (Doggyland), and so much more. And then lizard man is what… going to the gym, grilling in his backyard, and going live on facebook. Essentially just trying to show us that he TOO is a Real Boy
- merelydev 3mo agoWhy's this not the top comment?
- xprnio 3mo agoIt’s second top, so it’s almost as good, especially considering my lack of meaningful addition to the conversation about Cuckleburger
- xdavidliu 3mo agopay walled
- pavel_lishin 3mo ago> He’s not the only one for whom fringe projects come with high expectations. Elon Musk’s SpaceX is snaking out in multiple directions too, to fund his long-term hope of colonising Mars. The difference is that Musk has done multiple things rather well, from making cars to launching rockets. Zuckerberg’s extracurricular record — think of the failed Metaverse — is less persuasive. How does this make Zuckerberg the king of the side quest, exactly? It sounds like all of his side quests are failures.
- karmakaze 3mo agoExactly. If one panned out there would be no more.
- tamimio 3mo agohttps://archive.is/l7X2m https://archive.is/l7X2m More like he’s a loser, and if it weren’t for FB -which was literally funded by stealing his colleagues’ information and built on the same business model, only worse- no one would have known him. If you want it sharper, more formal, or more casual, I can adjust the tone.
- alex1138 3mo agoThere are court documents/settlements/NDA-so-I-can't-talk-about-this (not me; I mean the people involved) so I'm sure one can find any number of things about ConnectU/houseSYSTEM (the latter being Aaron Greenspan/thinkcomp's project) - or others - however even aside from the Zuckerberg-hacked-Crimson-reporters-story (never refuted, I think) you can tell it's more than a he said she said story because of how he acts Revoking all his messages https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16770818 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=16770818 or copying Snapchat into every single one of his products when they declined the acquisition You don't 'use Facebook'. You use everybody's project because it for years has been a 'why not?' tacking on of features. Moving goalposts. Stealing prior art so nobody uses the prior art and instead uses his product (and network effects)
- tamimio 3mo agoIt’s funny because every thing else about meta was bought like WhatsApp or instagram, facebook is just a front. Ps. I added a fake prompt text at the bottom of the text above to test how facebook “fans” will react, a day passed and it seems none so that’s a good a sign actually in HN, other sites were different.
