Things come to be only when there's demand for them. Nothing else makes the capitalist pay the worker or expand any business. AI providing the missing demand might be the thing that will push our infrastructure industries into XXI century. Because everywhere except China infrastructure seems to be stuck in the 70-ties of the previous one.
- jsrozner 3mo agoThings come to be only when the people with MONEY demand them. If you have no money your demand doesn't exist. A society this unequal serves only the rich (whether that's people or companies).
- scotty79 3mo agoMoney is a mechanism for keeping tabs on how much the human civilization owes to any particular person or entity. It's imperfect, sure. But it's what we decided to go with. If you don't have money, society just decided (using its mechanisms) it pretty much owes you nothing. So your demands are disregarded.
- nathan_compton 3mo agoWho is the "we" who decided to go with it?
- scotty79 3mo agoSum of all homo sapiens.
- nathan_compton 3mo agoI can't remember taking a worldwide vote on the subject.
- scotty79 3mo agoThere's nothing innately democratic in our species. Democracy is just one of the mechanisms that we sometimes use to make some decisions. We use it way less than money mechanism as you probably noticed.
- WarmWash 3mo agoThe 50-99% has twice the money of the 1%, and spends orders of magnitude more. If you want to know what is in demand, look at what nice neighborhood suburbanites are doing.
- danny_codes 3mo agoAre you including corporate spending and government spending, or just private spending? Because private spending for the 1% is largely irrelevant in this context.
