Show HN: Uvr – a uv-style package and environment manager for R, written in Rust
- nbafrank 2mo agoHi all! I made uvr and wanted to share a bit about it. I am a scientist and use R for projects. One thing that I have always felt has been harder in R compared to python was having a nice virtual environment that included control of the version of R. I started this project for myself to bring the same ease of use and power that uv enabled for python virtual environments directly to R This ended up being embraced by some members of the R community who are contributing to it actively! - nbafrank 2mo agorip (if I got the tool right) is a CLI package installer. uvr is so much more. It basically allows version control of packages and R version with a lock file. it's meant to feel and act very similarly to uv in Python. A closer tool would be renv but it is meant to do much more that other tools available. If you check the link, there's a page describing in more details all of this!
