You missed the most important part: what Apple fanbois would not just tolerate it but would invent a way to rationalize it and sell it to themselves under 'it's actually good for us'. Just like they did during with Batterygate and a charging port on a mouse' bottom.
Just did a little test: https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=apple+mouse+charging+port+bottom&ia=web https://duckduckgo.com/?t=ffab&q=apple+mouse+charging+port+b...
And the first result is:

Keeping the Magic Mouse charging port on the base is fine
Oct 29, 2024 The newly updated Apple Magic Mouse now has a USB-C charging port, but it's still on the bottom — *and that still doesn't matter.*
EDIT: I don't know if Apple would find a way to actually use it but regarding "PR disaster if it happened by accident, and a catastrophe if they ever did it on purpose" - it would be not.
- apparent 3mo agoOK cool, well LMK what the reason would be for Apple to ever do that, and I'll be happy to walk through your thought experiment about how fanboys would love to have their devices nerfed.
- justsomehnguy 3mo ago> would love to have their devices nerfed I provided an article on how they would love it. I don't know if you have seen the EDIT in my previous comment. > what the reason would be for Apple to ever do that There is one glaring reason - money. I don't know if they would do it but there is no question what they would at least think about it, especially considering they do/would have the knobs to do it.
- apparent 3mo agoCan you explain how Apple would make money in the medium-term (let alone long-term) if they used this feature on fully-paid devices? Also, they have now officially said it won't even be used on leased devices.
