So now how do I distribute dlls that are supposed to be used by my project? I'll shoot myself before adding binaries to source control.

  As someone noted, one possible workaround is to make a separate repo for just the downloads. E.g., for project "blah", add a "blah-download" project, and commit your "completel download" tarballs in there... Ugly and more annoying, but at least the files are somewhere...
