Jensen Huang's first post on Twitter is in defense of open access to AI models

- tomhow 3mo agoPlease don’t post generic dismissals on HN. We're here for thoughtful conversation. If you want to say something, try to say something that isn’t the same negative take that first comes to anyone’s mind if they want to say something negative. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html

- monsieurgaufre 3mo agoYou’re supposed to assume good faith and the parent is stating an opinion shared by many. Stiffling discussion because you don’t like the opinion is not showing that you’re here for thoughful conversation.
- tomhow 3mo agoIt's not assuming bad faith to point out that a comment is not in the spirit we're hoping for on HN and to politely ask the commenter to try to do better in future. It is assuming bad faith to assert that an industry leader is expressing an opinion primarily out of direct self-interest. And “stating an opinion shared by many” does not make for great discussion; it's repetitive and predictable and doesn't give us anything new to talk or think about. The whole thread has been flagged now which is fine; the central topic has already had plenty of discussion here, and this thread is awful.
- 0cf8612b2e1e 3mo agoHow does the advertisement process work exactly? $FAMOUSPERSON joins platform and makes their first post. Were they a nobody, it would be screaming into the void. Does the celebrity contact news outlets, “Hey guys, I joined Twitter, I will make my first post soon.” Equally amusing because Huang could call any media organization on the planet and have a full interview that day.
- hparadiz 3mo agoIt only takes at most a few dozen folks to start it trending and then it starts to proliferate through the entire feed until it has tens of thousands of likes. It's not hard to find that many people to hit like on something like that.
- anon291 3mo agoEmployees get told to like and repost. In any large company chances are there are multiple people with large audiences.

- colordrops 3mo agoWell I am still happy when the shovel manufacturer's interests are in line with the interests of the people instead of the oligarchs.
- throw1234567891 3mo agoHe’s not selling shovels, though. His product isn’t even the only one anymore. He says “people should be allowed to dig for gold”. Maybe with pitchforks and spoons, but dig. Shovels are secondary.
- tomhow 3mo agoPlease don't post sneering dismissals on HN. The guidelines make it clear we're trying for something better here. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- tcdent 3mo agoBro this place hasn't had a sense or enforcement of the guidelines for years.
- tomhow 3mo agoI really don't know what you're trying to say. If you look at the comment feeds of dang and me (or sctb or pg before that), you'll be hard-up finding a single day in the past 15+ years where there haven't been several comments from at least one of us (usually more) asking or reminding people to observe the guidelines. That doesn't mean we claim or even try to cleanse HN of anything bad ever being visible; the immune system takes time. But HN would not survive more than a few days if the moderation was as absent as you seem to be suggesting.

- storus 3mo agoThis feels like Nvidia's strategy doesn't really care about the few companies they invested to pushing frontier AI, but about scaling up the amount of GPUs/datacenters needed; open models forcing more GPU purchases would drive that faster than 2 frontier labs ever could. It's likely also attractive to anyone running a GPU rental business like AWS, Azure etc. who can offer more models.
