Meta launched a new AI optimism ad set to a song about human extinction
- dude250711 3mo agoThe real humour is Meta thinking it will be a meaningful part of AI future...
- Grimblewald 3mo agounfortunately one of the main applications of current wave "AI", in the long term, is going to be mass surveillance. Meta is a big player on that front.
- drweevil 3mo agoYup. Look at Palantir. What government wouldn't want an All Seeing Eye of Sauron? Their client list is telling.
- notabotiswear 3mo agoIt's a game for those with the most cash to burn, and Zuck has that cash (or the ridiculous and numerous equivalents the financers/economists come up with whenever the old set of Monopoly currencies come up short).
- rightbyte 3mo agoPeople not into music does not seem to actually listen to the lyrics. Like, Springsteens Born in the USA etc. It is really strange. The lyrics doesn't even have to be subtle.
- sidewndr46 3mo ago"pumped up kicks" comes to mind
- blitzar 3mo agoThey are nothing if not honest about what they think of their customers and what their ambitions are.
- cedws 3mo agoZuckerberg's got his bunker ready.
- blitzar 3mo agoYou see a bunker - I see a spaceship to return home.
- Dependance 3mo ago"dumb fucks" ? Wouldn't be new. https://www.theregister.com/offbeat/2010/05/14/facebook-founder-called-trusting-users-dumb-fcks/294365 https://www.theregister.com/offbeat/2010/05/14/facebook-foun...
- lardosaurusrex 3mo ago[dead]
- sebmellen 3mo agoOut of all of Bowie’s songs, why would you choose Five Years for this? So daft. You could have picked something like Rebel Rebel or Changes which are more positive songs that actually fit your message. Truly absurd.
- caminanteblanco 3mo agoNearly as inane as choosing saviour machine
- pwdisswordfishq 3mo agoAt this point, I would not be surprised if they did it on purpose.
- rceDia 3mo agoPerhaps a knowledgeable "insider" purposely selected the song as a warning "flare"..or perhaps the marketing folks are clueless.
- qlte 3mo agoIt reminds me of those substanceless Veridian Dynamics ads on Better Off Ted.
- FartyMcFarter 3mo agoGreat show, great reference.
- Slow_Hand 3mo agoThey had to have had _some_ inkling, considering one of the lyrics is “a cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest, and a queer threw up at the sight of that.”
