I'm not personally a fan of this move or the vibe coding rule. That being said, I genuinely wonder how many people complaining about the rule are personally affected. Seems weird to me to complain about a service setting its own rules when you don't engage with it or contribute to it.
- bel8 3mo agoThey don't have to be affected to be worried. It's how it was done and possibilities of further bans that is worrisome. I have small open source projects that I won't move to Codeberg ever now because I don't want to waste any mental energy pondering if I might get banned in the future. For example I have a stock trading backtracking strategy test tool. Will they ban anything related to fintech in the future because it is deemed evil? I don't want to have to think about that. Will they ban my crappy game macroing tool to automate some simple repetitive game actions because it is considered cheating or against some game ToS? I don't care and I don't want to have to care about a possible ban. It's a glorified auto clicker to prevent RSI health issues ffs.
- squigz 3mo agoWhat exactly about "how it was done" is alarming to you?
- hparadiz 3mo agoI might have used it in the future. Now I never will.
- tkel 3mo agoGreat, nothing of value was lost. I get that you aren't used to people bending over backwards trying to try to cater to you in order to sell you something and get your money. And the kind of social power dyamics that creates. But in this scenario, a group of people deciding democratically what to do with their platform, your hypothetical future potential (mis)use of their resource is really quite meaningless.

- tkel 3mo ago> Germans democratically elected Hitler This is such a tired trope and myth from people who haven't studied history Also, you're being comically absurd. You're literally comparing codeberg to Nazi Germany? lol
- inigyou 3mo agoThe mindset of today's Germans hasn't changed much over the last century, only the symbolism is banned. As can be seen by the most recent election results. I don't see what it has to do with Codeberg though.
- sneak 3mo agoPublishing platforms’ censorship policies affect readers because they affect discovery and decide, like a parent, what you should or should not be allowed to read.
- pibaker 3mo agoWeird example. Kids don't get to choose what parents they have. Nor can they just get rid of their parents if they don't like them. There is no reason you have to use codeberg when you can choose another platform or host your own. I'll be more sympathetic to your view if similar rules are imposed by GitHub, given its network effect and many software ecosystems' dependency on GitHub on an infrastructural level. But codeberg is not that.
- inigyou 3mo agoIs there really much discovery on Codeberg? I've never gone to Codeberg and wondered what software I could download today.
- elictronic 3mo agoCrypto shills have alot of money and bots to push their agenda. Issue is the community is so toxic and scammy at this point it might be more disliked than AI slop by anyone with a pulse.
- witx 3mo agoIt's HN. They like to think they are better than reddit, but in the end this site is a huge echo box, and any outlier causes these reactions, particularly when it's something or someone taking a moral/ethical stance
- pibaker 3mo agoIt feels like a sizeable chunk of this website's user base gets triggered when anyone takes any stance at all.
